Spyros A. Sofos

Spyros is a Lecturer at CMES, Lund, University in Sweden and Research Fellow at SEESOX, St. Antony's College, Oxford, UK. He has worked as a Senior Research Fellow in International Politics at the Helen Bamber Centre for the Study of Rights, Conflict and Mass Violence of Kingston University, London and has launched and directed Kingston's MSc in International Conflict. He has also worked as a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer in International Politics at Portsmouth University, as a Visiting Professor on Conflict Analysis and Nationalism and Human Rights at the University of Siena (MA in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action), on Nationalism and Multiculturalism at Tartu University and on Southeastern European Politics at Istanbul Bilgi University and as a NATO Research Fellow on Southeastern European Politics.

He is editor of the Journal of Contemporary European Studies and, with Umut Özkırımlı, is joint editor of the Islam and Nationalism book series of Palgrave Macmillan.

  • Το Βασανο της Ιστοριας: Ο Εθνικισμος στην Ελλαδα και την Τουρκια (with Umut Özkırımlı -Athens 2008) and
  • Islam in Europe: Public Spaces and Civic Networks (with Roza Tsagarousianou -Basingstoke 2013).
Spyros's research focuses on the study of social movements, identities and collective action, particularly in the case of Muslim communities in Europe, nationalism, conflict and coexistence in Southeastern Europe and the theory and practice of multiculturalism.
